Spring’s Seduction – Sonnet

I love the excitement of spring and relish every new bloom that breaks forward to great the day!

Springs Seduction

I watch the suns gentle return where the snow

has swept down howling through the trees,

where the river runs dispelling a warmer flow,

and flowers rise from beneath the leaves.

I watch the supple red tulips form to bud and bloom,

with heads tilted and mouths opened eager for the sun.

I watch the branches being stripped of shadow by the noon,

sweetly caressing every bough where winter once hung.

While the sunlight plays with springs guests

I watch the days grow warm and long

and it creates a stir within the breasts

and makes the heart beat fast and strong.

Beating with the pulse of desires throb urging,

urging me deeper, deeper into the arms of spring.

Llewednae – concept drawing and original sketch

I am beginning this painting this week. I still have to work out sketches for other mythical beings and creatures to round things out. We can’t have all pretty faeries. I had decided to put a pine woodland in the backdrop and continue to play with contrast. The original sketch was done years ago, and was inspired by a similarly noble person, whom I was reacquanted with this week online. So now I am even more excited to paint it, and not just offer up the sketch for sale.

It will be interesting to see how it continues to morph and develope. Inspiration is everywhere! I need to develop the literature concept a bit more by going into some welsh and scottish myths with Faeries more. I will be posting the progress again. Aiming for phase one and two by Friday- we shall see!

Aceo: Tulips II and Art News

Here is my second ACEO there are kind of fun to do, makes me want to get ACEO cards from some of my friends. I would love a polymer clay one from my friend KC. You should see the eggs she makes! Two more tulips left and I move on to Daffodils. Then something more mythical.

I am adding new things and moving things around a bit. I have some more development to do. The Stores links are fully functional, but needing layout still. The galleries section will be a major effort because I am still developing the size of image I want to display and make available for free Internet use, as well as the terms of such.

It should be done by May 1st, but the gods know I often bite off a lot of work and delay myself with too many projects. It will all serve as good practice for my main portfolio site, and retail site. Slow but steady and it is good!

Original ACEO of Tulips

What a great week I have had! I am putting up a picture of my first ACEO painting. I think I will do one a week. I have three more to finish in this tulip series and then I think I am move on to something daffodils.

I was amazed how much detail I could fit into such a tiny space. I just wish that the scanner had a better descreening feature, because the finish I use to make it look more like an oil painting is a tad reflective.

These tulips were a gift from my best friend. They were a warm and friendly smile of support during a very busy and stressed week. I love watching things bloom! I wonder what today will bring.

The orignal was a gift, but prints are available on my Etsy store. Each giclee print is hand retouched and I promise the detail is amazing. I always scan at 800 or higher dpi.

Pandeia Luna Moth / Moon Faerie

Pandeia is associated with the full moon. Her name means all bright and all divine and in addition to the full moon is associated with the earth nourishing dew. She may be one of the 50 Menae goddesses of the 99 moon cycle of the ancient Greeks.

Pandeia Faerie is completed and now finally added to the blog. I have been busy setting up Etsy and Artfire stores as well as preparing other marketing ventures. Very blah stuff- people and painting are much more fun!

How fun it was to have gotten this up on Etsy and start getting feedback on the full moon! Given that she is all about the full moon.

For those of you who are Faerie lovers I will be starting a Garden Faerie collection of 10 various faries shown with fairly common garden flowers. As usual I will work to incorporate the actual wings and colors of the butterflies and moths associated with the plant to the faerie.

I don’t see how it would be any other way- nature uses mimicry after all. I love painting real wings anyway- there is just something empowering about them. I have been inspired since seeing a poster of a life magazine cover, over and over while out for late night coffee with friends so many years ago. Drat, I wish I could remember the artist name. I will have to find the poster and artist and repost later.

Artist Notes:

  • Indigo and Neutral tint make a wonderful night sky
  • Naples Yellow made a wonderful warm yellow moon
  • High Quality pigments are a must with layering because of their translucent purity.
  • It is hard to illustrate a night sky with out giving into overuse of black. I did it but only because of Professor Lumen’s color theory class.
