Far Away
The solstice was very meaningful. It was great reflecting back on all the great things that highlighted the year. Holding those memories through the darkness, celebrating the wonderful souls that I have encountered over the last years journey, so many far away.

It is these feelings that inspired the poem below. I hope you all enjoy it.

Far Away

Far away, far away,
Like the enchanted moon by night,
Or the brilliant sun by day,
All things that bathe the soul with light,
All things lovely, are not they,
Far away, far away?

Viola- blooming in winter

Information on Images Without Watermark

“The smallest sprout shows there is really no death, And if ever there was it led forward life, and does not wait at the end to arrest it, And ceas’d the moment life appear’d. All goes onward and outward, nothing collapses, And to die is different from what any one supposed, and luckier.” – Walt Whitman

The above illustration was sketched from a surprising bloom in the heart of Winter after the solstice in 2004. It was a sweet and cheery smile from the cold snowy ground. Delightfully coming up from seed all on its own. I enjoyed sketching it out very much! Though my neighbor thought it was quirky of me to sit in the cold so long to do it.
Mind you it was about two feet away from the dryer vent, otherwise I don’t think it would have.
